A rare thing happened in a Texas court room involving a juvenile defendant named Jacob “Jake” Evans, 17. He confessed to murder and gave up his motive.
Evans confessed to murdering his mother Jami and his sister Mallory without opening his mouth, as his statement to police was admitted into evidence and public record despite his defense attorney’s protest.
The youth had told police that he had watched the remake of a horror movie called “Halloween” three times, and it made him think that “it would be the same for me when I kill someone,” referring to the main character’s total lack of remorse per the Star-telegram.com.
This served to help lay a foundation that motivated him to plot the killing of his entire family once a conflict arose with one member of it that made him angry.
And despite the assertion by him later that he was angry at an alleged racist remark made by his sister, thus he decided to kill his family, his taped 911 call paints a very different picture.
Uh, I just killed my mom and my sister. I felt like they were just suffocating me, in a way. Obviously, you know, I’m pretty, I guess, evil.”
Jake Evans enjoyed gruesome horror movies and believed that, like the character in the film he watched three times, that he could kill multiple people in cold blood, even if they were his own family.
His father believes him, refusing to pay the $750,000 bail required to get his only son out of jail during the course of the trial to come according to statements made before state District Judge Graham Quisenberry.
Evans’ father testified that while he had provided money and books to his son during his jail incarceration, he would not be risking any assets of his in order to secure his release from jail.
